4 Times When Mammootty Joined Hands With Priyadarshan!

Popular film-maker Priyadarshan has made a number of movies with Mohanlal. In fact, most of his blockbuster films had featured Mohanlal in the lead roles. Undeniably, they form one of the most loved combos of Mollywood. But, what about the director's association with the other superstar of Mollywood, Mammootty? In fact, both of them have been the best of friends since the 1980s. Their combo might not be that talked about, but they have teamed up for certain movies, which had quality content.

A bevy of beauties for Dulquer Salmaan in Solo

We had reported earlier that Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Solo’ directed by Bejoy Nambiar who made his mark in Bollywood with his films like ‘Shaitan’ and ‘David’ is on floors. Also we had reported that it has model turned actress Arathi Venkatesh as the lead lady, but another name also popped up in the later stage. It was that of Ann Augustine, this seems to be her comeback movie after her short hiatus.

From the beginning the makers have kept the cast of the movie as suspense. It is now heard that there will be around 5 heroines in this movie. The director is tight lipped about the other three actresses. Some sources close to the director claim that one actress among the next three will be a leading name in both Tamil and Malayalam. Solo is Bejoy Nambiar’s debut movie in Malayalam. It is touted as a different commercial movie.

Mammukka and I bring different value additions to a movie: Mohanlal

Fans of Mollywood's biggest stars — Mohanlal and Mammootty — can go raving about each other's strengths but the actors themselves are detached from the one-upmanship of who is the best in the industry.

Both Mammootty and Mohanlal blazed a trail of glory during the 80s and 90s that are mostly considered as the golden period of Malayalam film industry and have carved a unique niche for themselves not just in Mollywood but in Indian cinema. So much that competition has taken a backseat.
Ask Mohanlal if he misses the 80s and 90s when the duo churned hits after hits, trying to outdo each other, and the superstar quickly denies, "Healthy competition? There was never a competition between us. We have acted in 54 movies together. Chances of us competing for a movie now are also few because we have plenty of films."

The actor says that the duo has now different spaces in the industry. "Roles that come to Mammukka are not meant for me and vice versa. I would never say we have competed against each other unless we are acting in the same movie and are putting tour de force performances to outwit each other," he explains.

Mohanlal goes on to add that South film industries have had a tradition for twin pole arrangement in the past and it worked out well. "In Tamil, there was Rajinikanth and Kamal HaasanLatest Comm

Both have their own styles and there's no competition there. Similarly, both of us bring two different value additions to a movie."

On the expectations always surging for a Mammootty or Mohanlal movie, the actor says, "My commitment as an actor is to do my role inthe best way possible. I can't guarantee that films will run for 100 days. A lot of people put in their effort to bring out a movie. When it becomes a hit, they say it's Mohanlal's film or Mammootty's film. A movie is not just about the stars, it has huge paraphernalia of people that make it work with the director at the helm, who should get the major credit."

Talking about the yesteryear ventures, the actor says, "Our people like watching old movies. One thing I have noticed in contemporary films is that there's at least one scene or song that refers to yesteryear films such as Thoovanathumbikal or Chitram. So, there's still acceptance for those movies."

Vishal to make his Malayalam debut in Mohanlal’s next

Among his other contributions to the film industry, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is now also providing a solid launch pad for young actors from other film industry to make a career in Mollywood. After roping in Telugu actor Allu Sirish for his upcoming war movie 1971- Beyond Bordes, the actor has announced that Tamil actor Vishal will be playing an important role in his new film.
The untitled flick will mark Vishal’s debut in Malayalam. “Happy to announce my next flick written and directed by Unnikrishnan B. Production by renowned producer Sri. Rockline Venkatesh who has produced films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Linga. Actor Vishal is playing a very crucial role in the film,” Mohanlal posted on his Facebook page.

You can't buy bike, but can buy car said Mammootty to Dulquer

Jomonte Suviseshangal, the latest movie of Dulquer Salmaan directed by Sathyan Anthikad tells a story of a father and son. The father’s role is played by Mukesh and Dulquer as his son.
The character played by Mukesh didn’t like to buy bike for his son. He was tense that some accident might befall his son. But finally he succumbed to his son’s wish and gave him the nod to buy one. But when the bill came, he was stunned; his son has brought a bike that costs 18 lakhs.
In real life Dulquer’s father Mammootty was hesitant to buy his son a bike. Dulquer shared the memories of it recently. When he was 5 to 8 years old, Mammootty said to him that when he grows up don’t ask him for a bike, if I have money, I may buy you a car, but don’t think about a bike in this life. Whenever Dulquer asks for a bike, his father became tense this he can relate very much to the character of Mukesh in the film.

Mukesh about his father role in Jomonte Suvisheshangal....

Everyone was surprised when Mukesh accepted the role of Dulquer Salman’s father in ‘Jomonte Suvisheshangal’. The actor in a recent interview opened up his mind about why he accepted the offer wholeheartedly.

Director Sathyan Anthikad was apprehensive whether Mukesh will accept the role of Dulquer’s father in the film. So Sathyan Anthikad directly visited him and told the story. After hearing the story Mukesh told him that all those who love acting won’t say ‘no’ to this offer as the story is so wonderful. He also said this is a family role which all actors dream of.

This film is the story of his character too. His character’s name is Vincent and is a self-made-man. The character Vincent conquered Thrissur town through his sheer hard work. He never scolds his son who is naughty and wastes time a lot. The story takes its journey through the son who says ‘I a waste among my father’s children’ and his father.

Popular director makes controversial comment against Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan!!!

There have been lot of controversies when Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan, won the state award for best actors in the recent years as majority of the audiences believed that there are many others who acted better than the two. And now, popular Mollywood director Sajin Baabu came out with a controversial statement against Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan related to this award issue.

Recently, Sajin shared a news about Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor who confessed that he had given money to get an award for his performance in his 1973 movie Bobby, when the award was actually deserved to Amitabh Bachchan that year.
Sajin wrote on his social media page that if Rishi Kapoor was able to buy an award back in 1973, then the situation would be worse now. He remarked that many years later if the audience can we expect such a revelation from Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan in their autobiographies. The director's statement didnot go well among the fans of both stars and has already created a huge uproar on social media.

Sajin Baabu rose to fame with his directotial Asthamayam Vare, which won recognition at 2014 IFFK. Sajin is now doing a movie titled Ayaal sasi, with Sreenivasan in the lead.

Anurag Kashyap's 'debut Malayalam film' to star Nivin Pauly: Moothon first look draws praise..

When news broke in November 2016 that Aanand L Rai had signed Anurag Kashyap for two films under his banner, Colour Yellow Productions, we admit to feeling a thrill — what would the Tanu Weds Manu Returns 2 director and Kashyap come up with.
Not too many details were revealed, except that one of those projects might possibly be a small-town love story set in Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Express quoted Rai as saying, “He (Kashyap) is one of my favourite directors. I always wanted to collaborate on and do something (with him).
Now that we have got an opportunity, we are doing it.”

While neither director has revealed much about those projects in the weeks since, it emerges that their first official collaboration will be for a Malayalam film directed by Geetu Mohandas and starring Nivin Pauly.
While Rai is producing Moothon, Geetu Mohandas shared in a Facebook post that Anurag has helped with writing the dialogues.
Anurag Kashyap re-shared Geetu's post with the words: "Geetu Mohandas's awesome awesome script is going on floors soon and proud to say it's my Malayalam debut... yay!"

A slew of congratulatory messages poured in on social media, including from Dhanush, who said: "All the best to my most favourite Aanand L Rai (he worked with the director on Raanjhana), my good friend Nivin and Geethu Mohan Das for this project.
 Looks very interesting."

Moothon's poster/first look which was released by Geetu Mohandas along with the announcement, has already earned Nivin Paulya fair bit of praise.
Nivin, who started out as the quintessential chocolate boy hero in films like Bangalore Days has slowly moved towards a different avatar, as in Premam. With Moothon — in which he sports a rather rugged look, complete with a scarred brow and piercings — the transformation seems to be complete.

Prithviraj calls out theatre owners for hurting Malayalam industry’s growth

The ongoing stand-off between producers and exhibitors federation has been hurting the Malayalam film industry at a time when it started realising its potential to rise up to the level of other south Indian movies in terms of box office collection. Condemning the theatre strike, actor Prithviraj has questioned the rationale behind the demand of exhibitors in seeking a 50-50 share of the revenue.
“I’m not going to list out the criteria of profit sharing and taxes to be paid now, once a person comes to know about them, he will understand how difficult it is to get back the investment for a film,” read a Malayalam Facebook post of the actor as translated in English by Manorama.com.
“Moreover, how many single-screen theaters in Kerala can claim that they are offering the same facilities of a multiplex? If they claim to do so, why then can’t the theaters go for a common rating panel/body which will rate all theaters and fix profit share scales,” he added.
He also appreciated Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan that heralded a new chapter in the Malayalam film industry by becoming first every Mollywood film to rake in more than Rs 100 crore. Describing 2015-16 as a golden year, he said no stakeholder has suffered losses and even theatre owners were benefited from the growth of industry.
He asserted that he supports the producers and distributors in this issue, not because he is one of them, but he is a movie buff, who is proud of the industry’s growth. He is the first leading actor to have spoken against the ongoing crisis in the industry, even as the filmmakers have suffered a huge monetary loss as no films were released since December 16.
Earlier, director Priyadarshan has slammed the exhibitors for trying to destroy the industry. “The Film Exhibitors Federation has always tried to destroy Malayalam cinema. At a time when Malayalam cinema enters the Rs 100 crore club, a permanent solution should be found to end this,” he added. His 2016 film Oppam starring Mohanlal, had collected more than Rs 50 crore at the box office
The Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation, which has 350 plus theatres under its purview, has declared a strike demanding to revise the profit-sharing policy which will make the single screen owners eligible to take 50 percent of the profit on the box office collection. Currently, the profit ratio between producers and exhibitors is 60:40.

Kerala theatre strike: Finally! New Malayalam films to release

Even as the protesting members of exhibitors federation are adamant on their demand, the Malayalam filmmakers have finally decided to go ahead with the release of new films, which were supposed to hit the screens during Christmas last year.

The release of four highly-anticipated films of Mollywood including Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salman’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri were stalled by a section of theatre owners, who have been demanding parity with multiplexes on revenue sharing.
According to the latest reports, producers of Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol and Jomonte Suvisheshangal have planned to release their films on January 19 in theatres that are not part of the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation. Ezra and Fukri, meanwhile, will also be released by the end of this month.
The new development comes in the backdrop of the release of Tamil film Bairavaa on Thursday. The film was released on 150 screens and another 20 plus screens was added on Friday. Earlier, it was planned that the film will be screened in multiplexes and theatres run by the government and non-federation members
. However, some members of the federation defied the strike and accommodated the new Vijay-film, exposing the rift in the federation.Meanwhile, on Saturday, producers, distributors and theatre owners will meet in Kochi, which will be presided over by actor Dileep to discuss the ways to move forward from the stalemate that has brought the Malayalam film industry to a standstill for almost a month now.
According to media reports, there is a plan to form a new federation of exhibitors.
The association of exhibitors led by Liberty Basheer has banned the screening of the new Malayalam films demanding a 50-50 share of the box office profit. According to the current policy, theatre owners get to keep 40 percent, while 60 percent of the box office revenue of a new film in its first week will go to producers.

Captain Raju Praises Dulquer Salmaan

Captain Raju is one of the expert actors of Malayalam Film Industry with the experience of decades. A word of appreciation from such an actor is always a blessing and motivation for the youngsters. Now the young and stylish star Dulquer Salman gets a clean chit from Captain Raju. It happened years ago when Captain Raju was in Madras for the shoot of a movie.

READ:WOW! Has Dulquer Salmaan Signed His Next In Tamil?

It was an Eid day and he called Megastar Mammootty for wishing him Eid Mubarak. But the one who attended the call was Dulquer and he told Captain Raju that Mammootty is not at home. He also told him to come for lunch. Captain Raju denied his invitation by telling the young star that he is not alone and there are many with him. But Dulquer continuously insisted him and he made it to Mammootty’s home for lunch. What Captain Raju said about Dulquer Salman’s hospitality is that it was Dulquer’s behavior that was tastier than the Biriyani he served.
He also applauded the mentality that Dulquer showed in receiving Mammootty’s guests.

THE TOP 5 MALAYALAM MOVIES OF 2016 TOP 5 MOVIES

THE TOP MOMENTS

AND PROMSING DEBUTANTS

This year has been the year of big and small. Pulimurugan broke new ground and became the first Malayalam film to join an elite club while Anandam had a bunch of youngsters at the helm and drew large crowds. Few years ago, it was a distant dream. This year we had movies of different genres and the surprise was most of them was well received too. Malayalam film industry is going a transformation, a healtyhy transformation.

Here are my top picks from the movies released last year.

TOP 5 MOVIES
KAMMATIPADAM

A gangster movie which showed the undercurrents of the city starting from their childhood. When we were glued to the story of friendship and gang-war, on the core it showed the underlying of the land-mafia and how it affects the lives of those who started the change. They the for the began as the pawns of those who plays in the exposes together in the end made the movie stand out from the other gangster movies we had. The A-rated movie received some flak for too much bloodshed but keeping in mind the harsh realities and the general tone of the gangster movies this was to be expected. An outstanding movie which surely will be bagging a lot of awards this season.

GUPPY

A heartwarming tale of son-mother relationship. And the hardships taken by son makes to meet the ends and making his wish come true. It was a poignant tale that we can rarely see in our films. And every character was so well written. Chetan as Guppy and Tovino as the Engineer locking horns with each other and having feuds over petty things and they both did commendable job. The entire coastline in Kadaipatnam(Nagercoil) was painted for the movie. The only glitch was the length of the movie which should have been kept little down. Nevertheless, it was done by a debutant John Paul George who crafted this heartening tale. This movie can be grouped into the same league of the internationally acclaimed ‘Children of Heaven’.

ACTION HERO BIJU

Realistic portrayal of the day to day activities of the police station. For the first time, ever Malayalam cinemagoers saw a police station in close. We liked everyone who walked into the station with complaints. The casting was so perfect that those who did minor roles was noticed, we laughed with them, empathized with them and a few times shed tears also. And some of the incidents in the movie was based on real life happenings. The tight screenplay, good performances made this movie an entertaining watch.

MAHESHINTE PRETHIKARAM

A cute and simple film full of subtle gestures and comedy. The movie reminds of the Sathyan Anthikad-Srenivasn movies of 80s though this one had a simpler storyline. But having a simple storyline did not stop Dilish Pothen to make it dearer. He made us love the characters. Mahesh Bhavna, Artist Baby, Crispin, Sonia was the people we like to see around. Fahadh Fazil gave one of his best performances, showing how talented he is compared to his contemporaries. None of the younger crop of actors could have done the role as convincingly as him. The beautiful visuals and the melodic title song of Bijibal ‘Malamelle’ raised the bar of the film. Credit should be given to the director for making it a cinematic beauty.

PULIMURUGAN

The blockbuster movie of the year, though the story is the usual run of the mill superstar vehicle, but the superbly choreographed action sequences helped to make it into the list. Mohanlal deserves praise for doing those stunts and being so flexible and energetic at 56 but the CGI team and vfx team also deserves an equal appreciation for the amazing job they did. The CGI work was so top class that no glitch was felt on the tiger sequences. Peter Hein and team have paved a new path for action in the Malayalam movie industry. The action sequences though few over the top didnt look unatural. Also complementing was the detailed cinematography of Shaji and editing which made it more exciting and provided goosebumps for the audience. Kudos to Vyshak for pulling off a miracle and opening new avenues for Malayalam film industry.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS (MOVIES WHICH FAILED TO MAKE IT TO THE TOP 5):

> Ann Maria Kalippilanu

> Oru Muthassi Gadha

THE MOVIES WHICH STOOD OUT:

Jacobinte Swargarajyam, Oppam, Pretham, Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, Kochavva Paulo Ayappa Coelho, Anandam and Kattapanayile Hritik Roshan

OTHER NOTABLE FILMS WHICH HAD MERIT (IN THEMES OR PORTRAYAL BUT FAILED TO MAKE MUCH OF AN IMPACT):

Happy Wedding, Oozham, SwarnaKaduva, Hallo Namasthe, Malgudi Days, Vettah, James and Alice, Karigunnam 6s, Kismath and Leela.

NEW COMERS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
Rajisha Vijayan – Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, an incredible performance as the probing lover she was the show stealer of the movie.

Manikandan – Kammatipadam, for the strong portrayal of Balanchettan.

Dilish Pothen – Director Mahesh Prethikaram. For making a movie so simple and but so loving.

John Paul George – Director Guppy. Everything was different in the movie the frames, Art and narrative. The differences made the movie stood out.

TOP MOMENTS IN FILMS:
PuliMurugan: Action sequences were top notch. But the one which stood out is the kid hunting down the tiger.

Kammatipadam : After the fight in front of theatre Balan standing atop a car with Mohanlal’s poster in background selling tickets in black.

Action Hero Biju: Suraj’s scene where he walks away with tears in his eyes and the song Muthe ponne. Never imagined a guy who was captured for causing public nuisance singing a song and that too with tapping on the desk of police.

Maheshinte Prethikaram: The comical sequence. The facial expressions of the duo when National Anthem being played was priceless.

Pretham: The ghost becoming tech savvy and getting a colorful wardrobe.

Oru Muthassi Kadha: The grannies going into the bar and enjoying out themselves.

TRYING OUT DIFFERENT GENRES
Telling of genres, we had many Sports movies this year. I don’t know from where film makers got this purge of interest in sports. Was it because 2016 was an Olympics year or of the inspiration of hosting the National games last year. Whatever be the reason we got a lot of movies having sports coming in the story line.

Karikunnam 6s had an incredible story but while translating to the screen it failed to keep the fire and failed miserably at the BO. In Thoppil Joppan, Mammotty captains a Kabbadi team but the way the match was shot on the screen was unbearable for those who knows the rules of the game. Orru Murai vannthu parthaya, had Unni Mukundan wrestling but the fight was badly choregraphed. Ann Maria Kalippilanu had the story of a girl hiring a goon to beat up her sports teacher for calling her jumps foul. And in KPAC we had Kunchako Boban coaching the boy in swimming. But these movies didn’t capture the beauty of sports well and the game wasn’t exciting. With movies like Godha and Sathyan (based on the true story of PV Sathyan the footballer) coming up, I hope we will be treated to a complete sports movie that captures the real intensity and stays true to the game.

With Guppy, Ann Maria, KPAC, Malgudi Days, School Bus, Olapeepi this year saw many movies which falls into children’s category but they not only cater to kids but also told few things to the older generation. Speaking of Old people, we had two movies which told of the desires of the aging minds, Oru Muthassi Kadha and Pa Va. The former correctly portrayed the agony of the old generation but was little preachy. And the latter was a letdown.

PRODUCTION HOUSES
Udaya Studios, one of the pioneer production houses made a comeback with KPAC. The famed hen on the globe once again hooted in the cinema halls and the film also didn’t disappoint. The versatile Vinneth Sreenivasan added producer credit to his name with Anandam, the film like the title offered pure joy to the cinemagoers. And with Jacobinte Swargarajyam earned him another credit of ‘New Gen Sathyan Anthikad’. Nivin Pauly with Abrid Shine also ventured into producing films. And Malgudi Days, was produced via crowd sourcing. Crowd funding makes it less risky for making a movie and inspires many more into it.

LOOKING AHEAD

Hope 2017 brings an early end to the spat between the producers and theatres associations. Bringing out more good movies in different genres and have an awesome time for the audience.

Is Pearle Maaney's 'THANKS TO ALL GOOD MEN' post trying to mitigate the seriousness of Banglore mass molestation?

In the backdrop of the Bengaluru mass molestation issue, a lot of men and women are coming up on social networking sites, with the response 'Thanks to all the good men'. One among them is actress Pearle Maaney who wrote on her page about why one should be grateful to have good men around.

Her post has triggered a lot of discussion among youth. They say it is similar to the hastag #Notallmen, which has been making rounds on social networking sites. The youth ask Pearle, "How is your post relevant to the mass molestation that happened in Bangalore? No woman has ever blamed the entire men while they were talking about sexual harassment. All women are aware that not all men want to grope them or hurt but at least one man has. Doesn't woman have the right to talk about it or worry about being insecure?"

They request Pearle not to deviate the conversation when women are trying to voice out about their insecurity. "We are not attacking men by talking about the molestation but the rape culture and patriarchy which aren't gender-specific."

1971: Beyond Borders
Highlight: Battle scenes featuring tanks

Indian cinema has not featured many films that have had extensive battle scenes with armoured tanks. And that's what Major Ravi's movie with Mohanlal that is set against the backdrop of Indo-Pakistani war would showcase. The superstar would once again reprise his role as Major Mahadevan in the war drama.

Vimaanam
Highlight: Inspired from true story of Saji M Thomas

The film, directed by Pradeep M Nair with Prithviraj in the lead, is billed as the first Malayalam movie featuring the theme of aviation. It's also partly inspired from the real life story of hearing and speech-impaired Saji, who built a light-weight aircraft all by himself. Who doesn't like the tale of an underdog achieving his dreams?
Sakhaavu

Director Sidhartha Siva could quell all those notions about him being solely a filmmaker of offbeat cinema with this movie. Sakhaavu has Nivin Pauly as a student leader and is sure to pack a punch with its intense, hard hitting scenes. The actor says that movie is a complete package with romance, action and drama.

Godha

Lena, Sreenivasan to play Asif’s parents in Honey Bee 2

The success of filmmaker Jean Paul Lal's debut directorial movie Honey Bee proved that the stoner genre also has a space in Mollywood, and fans have been waiting for its sequel since its announcement.
However, the director has taken a different route with the film, by making it a family entertainer. While Asif Ali, Bhavana, Lal, Balu Varghese and Baburaj will reprise their roles, we hear that Sreenivasan and Lena would be playing parents of Asif's character in the mvie.
Lena, who had earlier essayed the actor's mom in Asuravithu, says that she plays an "easy-going mother named Ruby" in the movie. "I am glad to be part of the sequel of a movie that broke all cliches of Malayalam cinema. While Honey Bee was a youth-oriented movie, this is more of a family film, where you get to know how the new generation deals with relationships, she adds.
Sreenivasan plays a character named Thampy Antony, which is different from the ones he has essayed so far, says a source close to the director.

The young actress will next be seen in an uber cool avatar of a water sports trainer in director Rafi's Role Models, and her social media page brims with some snazzy photographs from the sets in Goa.
The film's schedule in Goa packed a lot of fun for the team, she says, but it also came with a few shocks as well. Namitha narrates an incident in which she almost drowned, together with her co-star Fahadh Faasil. "We were shooting a scene in which I take Fahadh into the sea, on a jet ski. During the training, I was told how to evade waves of different types but I couldn't play smart with this one, which was quite a roller-coaster. Both Fahadh and I fell hard into the water on either sides, and I could sense that the area was quite deep. Funnily enough, the guards who had come with us into the waters thought we are acting, and didn't dive in to save us!"

It's only when an announcement was made from the land that the guards understood that it was an actual fall, says the actress. "Things didn't go out of hand, thankfully," says the actress. "I looked around and saw that Fahadh was also knocked off from the jet ski. We then calmly swam towards the shore."

Recently there were reports circulating that the next Gautham Menon movie is with Nivin Pauly and Vikram and it will have Vikram essaying a negative role.
